I'm not optimistic about EVE (or anything). I realistic about it.
The reality is the EVE is fine and will be fine for a long time unless CCP muffs it up either in some attempt to "broaden" it's appeal to people who wouldn't like it no matter what you do (like Incarna) or tries too hard to "monetize" it again (monoclegate). The other reality is that even if EVE isn'T fine, at the end of the day it's just a video game (no matter how epic and time consuming it is) and if it 'goes away' well it was a damn fine ride while it lasted.
In other words, we've seen that they only thing that can really kill EVE is CCP itself, it's survived every other thing/new game that came about. I still "lol to myself" when I Google the words "Black Prophecy is going to kill EVE" 
While I'm not 'optimistic' I prefer the optimistic types (as long as they are grounded in reality) way more than i do the "EVE is Dying" pessimistic types. They fall into 2 categorizes.
1. The folks who like EVE and are experiencing anxiety at the idea that something they 'invested so much into' might end. These are the "Doomsday dudes", not unlike the homeless guy holding the sign on the corner about impending doom.
2. The folks who don't really like EVE and think "it could be so much better if". EVE doesn't give them something they fundamentally need, but rather than stop paying for a product that doesn't do it for them on some level, they lobby intensely for changes to the game , to make it into something they think they would like. They are like vultures, waiting for any sign of weakness in the game (like lower average PCU counts) to be able to squawk "SEE! now you must make the changes i suggest in order to save the game, it's mere coincidence that the necessary changes are things I've wanted for my own personal enjoyment for years!!" They are in no way different from real life politicians who wait for any seemingly bad event to happen then use that event as a wedge to get elected lol.
The 1st type is just fearful, the 2nd type is stupid lol. |
